My Indian Movie Recommendation
Movies....A form of entertainment, has always had an influence on me. Someone once said ,"We become what we watch" and honestly I do agree with that. Movies have the power to impact us in every way possible. The kind of movies you watch end up shaping your character. Needless to say, I'm a connoisseur of movies and that is the reason why I tend to watch movies of all the genres which is available to mankind.
Today, I'll be writing about the Indian movies that have had some kind of significance in my life and have also influenced some of my actions. This is like a recommendation of all the movies that have changed my ideology or questioned my lifestyle in someway or the other.
So, without any further ado, let's start this list:
1) Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) & Wake Up Sid (2009)
It's the year 2013, I'm in my Xth and a movie named Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is released. With great songs and beautiful locations, I finally decided to watch this film. Little did I know that this movie would end up having such a huge influence on me. Even though the movie is pretty irrelevant but it still had some magic in it that has attracted me for some many years. YJHD was directed by Ayan Mukerji which takes me to my next movie recommendation i.e Wake Up Sid. I'm not gonna say much about this movie because according to me it is a class apart. It is a mainstream film but it never felt like one. This movie depicted that why finding your niche is important. IMDb rating : 7.1 & 7.6
2) Udaan (2010)
Vikramaditya Motwane's Udaan was a breath of fresh air. A story about the most complicated relationships in the world, the one between a father and a son is shown in such a raw and uncensored format. Although, the movie is centred around Rohan (Rajat Barmecha) but the dynamics between him and his father (Ronit Roy) is portrayed in one of the most horrific ways possible. The way Ronit Roy treated his son in the movie was just so unacceptable and by the end you really root for Rohan. This is the movie that changed my perception towards relationships and kudos to both, Rajat Barmecha and Ronit Roy for such a brilliant performance. The moment "Aazaadiyan" starts playing in the end, I'm pretty sure that you guys will have a heart filled with emotions. IMDb rating : 8.2
3) Charlie (2015)
I found this movie in the most depressing time of my life and that's why Charlie had the greatest impact on me. We human beings have a skill to complicate life which in reality is quite simple if you just take the time to live your life with kindness. This movie actually taught me that the world is a cruel place but your kindness can help you win everything. Charlie, a nomad, teaches us how we in this world miss out on such beautiful things around us because we're busy with things that really don't matter in the long run. Although, this movie is in Malayalam, it's a humble request that everyone should watch this masterpiece. It has already been remade in 2 languages viz. Marathi and Tamil but DQ is the only one worthy enough to capture the true essence of Charlie. Because he is Charlie. IMDb rating : 7.9
4) Bajirao Mastani (2015)
There are many epic historical period films like Jodhaa Akbar, Tanhaji, Padmaavat, Mughae-E-Azam, etc but none of them impacted me as much as Bajirao Mastani did. Ranveer Singh has been a revolution for Indian Cinema and I'm happy to say that he nailed the role of Peshwa Bajirao. Now, I'm not comparing but I personally feel that Priyanka Chopra's role was way more powerful than that of Deepika Padukone. Nevertheless, SLB did a beautiful job directing this masterpiece which will always stand the test of time according to me. This movie is filled with some of the most iconic dialogues in the history of Bollywood.IMDb rating : 7.2
5) Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)
There are tons of biopics released till now but none of them were able to capture the essence of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. This movie was fire. Farhan Akhhtar and Rakyesh Ompraksah Mehra's combination was a huge success. I remember going for this movie when I was in my Xth and I came home with such great respect for Milkha Singh. Biopics have the power to make and break a personality. I'm glad with movies like these, some of the forgotten personalities of India will get the tribute and respect they deserve.IMDb rating : 8.2
Zindagi na Milegi Doobara is the only movie that can beat YJHD in this list. Zoya Akhtar's movies are really great but ZNMD beats all of them. Maybe, it's the stellar cast, the scenic locations of Spain or the beautiful storyline...I really don't know. Farhan Akhtar keeps reciting poems in this movie and "Dilon mein tum apni betaabiyan leke chal rahe ho toh zinda ho tum" became really iconic and famous. These poems are really beautiful and have a significant meaning. The bottom line is that I fell in love with Spain. IMDb rating : 8.1
Well, on somewhat same lines, we have Dil Chahta hai which was a revolution. 3 friends planning a trip to Goa is still a dream for many people. Nevertheless, back in the 2000's, something like this was never attempted and Farhan Akhtar gave Bollywood it's first boy-squad solo film. This movie has everything and is pretty relevant and watchable even in 2020. Movies like these end up getting the "cult-classic" status which is very well deserved. IMDb rating : 8.1
7) Dear Zindagi (2016)
I really don't know how but this movie had so many incredible messages. By the end of the movie you really start wishing that you might love to visit a psychiatrist like SRK. I was really sceptical about this movie but still I watched it and I must say it's something that everyone should watch. One of the reasons why I'm writing about this movie is because this movie emphasizes on how each and everyone out there has issues and visiting a good psychiatrist doesn't mean that you've mental problems. It simply means that sometimes you need someone to talk to about your life without people judging you for who you are.IMDb rating : 7.6
8) Premam (2015)
Man...this movie has changed my definition of love. You might have read about the 3 stages of love and some of you might have gone through those 3 stages. However, this movie portrayed those stages with such beauty and that too from a man's perspective. Nivin Pauly steals the show every time he appears whether he is clean shaved, sporting a full beard or rocking a moustache. Basically these looks are just to show the subtle transformations of Nivin Pauly throughout the years i.e from school to college to job. Malar (Sai Pallavi) was the highlight of this movie. This is one of the most highly recommended movies for all the brothers out there. Disclaimer: Don't watch the remake.IMDb rating : 8.3
9) 3 Idiots (2009)
Well, there is nothing to write about this one as everyone has watched 3 Idiots irrespective of who you are and what you do. This movie is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone and both the movie as well as the book end up dealing with the cruelty of our education system. Education is merely a business nowadays and it does affect the students mentally and emotionally. This movie deals with the basic clause of "do what you are made for" which in reality is not that simple. However, difficult it may seem it's a necessity to find your niche rather than doing something that you parents, relatives or friends suggested you to do.
IMDb rating : 8.4
10) Anand (1971)
The 60's, 70's and 80's of Bollywood was such a beautiful time. There are so many iconic movies from that era. However, if I've to pick one out of all the movies then it has to be Anand. Rajesh Khanna was always known for stealing the show and this movie is a prime example of his expertise in the field of acting. To top that, we also have Amitbah Bachchan who plays the role of a doctor. "Babumoshai ..zindagi badi honi chahiye lambi nhi" has to be the most iconic dialogue in the history of Indian Cinema. If you haven't watched Anand, then you haven't watched anything.IMDb rating : 8.4
