Invincible : The Dark Age of Heroes

Amazon Prime has been putting out some great original content on their platform and it is really addictive. Previously I got hooked onto a show called The Boys and TBH I was highly impressed by the way it is created, keeping the comic in mind. The Boys is pretty influential in showing us the reality of superheroes but then came invincible which changed everything.

Although Invincible is animated, the show is somewhat on the similar lines. Not going to spoil the show for you but trust me the first episode itself is enough to get you hooked, especially the last 20 minutes.

Reality as I often say is an illusion which can be hidden from anyone but there comes a time when secrets start to unravel itself and people come to know about the truth. This one line is sufficient for you to understand what the show is all about. So, let's talk about what I liked and what I didn't like in this show.

The show is just 8 episodes long which makes it bingeable and  one of the reasons why I liked the show was the duration of each episode. Let's assume each episode has a duration of 40 minutes. So, you'll complete Season 1 in around  320 minutes i.e less than 6 hours. Well, I was too busy to watch it in one go but I managed to finish season 1 in just 2 days.

Robert Kirkman is the man behind this show. He has not only created the comics but also decided to make it into an animated series. Such kind of creativity is often appreciated by people who understand the mindset of such creators. It's pretty difficult to create something new these days and hence developing a show on such a popular comic book becomes very troublesome. Let's take the example of Jupiter's Legacy which turned out to be a flop show and at the very same time The Umbrella Academy was also not that likeable in comparison to its comic book version. Although, The Umbrella Academy is still a pretty good adaptation but nothing can beat The Boys and Invincible. Well, this is just my opinion and it may differ from your perception of these shows.

Coming to the voice artists, we have Steven Yeun who has voiced the Main character Mark Grayson a.k.a. Invincible. Apart from that we've  J.K Simmons as the voice of Nolan Grayson/ Omni-Man and Sandra Oh who has provided her voice for Debbie Grayson. We also have Gillian Jacobs, Grey Griffin, Mark Hamill, Zazie Beetz, Ezra Miller, Mahershala Ali, Seth Rogen and many more.

Now coming to the most important aspect of this show is the gore. The creators have shown everything that is possible from massive destructions to a lot of blood getting spilled along with the guts. I'm purposely writing this as some people may find it disturbing and as a reviewer it is my duty to state all theses facets of the show before you guys start watching it. There is also a warning before each and every episode so read it and then watch the show.

If by any chance you guys have watched The Boys then Invincible will be a piece of cake for you as we all know how brutal The Boys is.

Invincible has an IMDb rating of 8.8 and the series has been renewed for a second season. Keeping all this in mind, it's time to end this review. Now it's your decision and your time......spend it wisely.
