KGF 2 : Rocky Bhai Returns for Unavoidable Violence
Well, if KGF was a stepping stone for Kannada industry then I'm proud to say that KGF chapter 2 has continued the legacy with a mighty roar. Till date, I've always been happy for the Telugu and Tamil industry for brining powerful stories but in the last few years, the Malayalam and Kannada industry have come up with scripts that are not only interesting and fascinating but at the very same time, they're hitting it out of the park. I've said this before and I'll say it again the south industry has provided so much entertainment and has majorly attracted people back to theatres and has also made them spend money on OTT subscriptions. Bollywood has been dethroned again. Last year it was Pushpa, few months ago it was RRR and now its KGF.
Coming to KGF chapter 2, honestly part 1 was a surprise deal like "Bahubali - The Beginning". No one expected the world to get acquainted with Rocky Bhai's world but everyone ended being a Yash fan. That man has a magnificent screen presence and it is maddening. That beard itself has so much pizzazz. Man-o-man we all have secretly wished to have a beard like that as we can never possibly replicate the swag that Yash has brought on screen.Casting Sanjay Dutt as Adheera was a mind blowing decision as the movie not only became PAN India
but after Kancha Cheena in Agneepath (2012), we were fortunate enough to see Sanjay Dutt in such a brutal and ruthless form. The confrontation between Adheera and Rocky is just "Vera" Level. Their fight sequences are pretty well choregraphed keeping their individual stature in mind.
The problem with KGF 1 were some moments where the action sequences were pretty fast and kinda blurry and dark at times. The same environment has been setup in KGF 2 as well but the action sequences are far better than its predecessor.
The plot is very simple but the way it has been executed by the visionary director Prashanth Neel is just commendable. You just can't deny the fact that this man is supremely talented and has the power to change the face of Indian Cinema in a way similar to S.S Rajamouli.
A title by The Indian Express got my attention and they had stated that "Prashanth Neel is Zack Snyder on Steroids and KGF Chapter 2 is his amusement park." Honestly I hate such kind of comparisons but since Zack Snyder is a visionary director I've understood the purpose behind this comparison from a positive and pragmatic perspective.
Before I start writing about other aspects about the film, there are a few special mentions and I would take the liberty to acknowledge their performance. Archana Jois who plays Rock's mother has done a phenomenal work and I really liked her performance in both the parts. There is a motherly element that was added in both the moves and you will truly understand the warrior mentality that was instilled in Rocky by his mother.
A dialogue from part 1 has been stuck in my head since then and I'll mention it in Kannada but nevertheless you'll still understand it.
"Prapanchdali Tai kitna daurd Yoddha yaru illa. "
Coming to the other cast members, Raveena Tandon as Ramika Sen has given a power packed performance which simply says that Bollywood has given legendary actors but never knew how to use their true potential. Srinidhi Shetty has a complete 360 degree attitude shift from the character that she played in part 1.
The most important aspect of such movies is the BGM and Ravi Basrur has done a magnanimous job of creating the ultimate "Toofan" which gave me goosebumps when I first heard it. The south industry has not only mastered the art of storytelling but also have become pioneers of revolutionary BGMs.
Ravi Basrur has done a phenomenal work in both the parts and I feel "Salaam Rocky Bhai" and "Sulthan" from part 1 have unexpectedly reached the Indian audience with proper dues but "Toofan" has really created a storm. The emotional tune that is a part of Gagan Nee (Falak tu Garaj tu in Hindi) has been a fad since the day it was released in part 1 and also it has been the ringtone of so many people out there.
The only issue I've is that most of the cinemas in Mumbai and many other metropolitan cities have been playing more shows in Hindi rather than the original language that they're made in. Even though I know Kannada, I had to watch it in Hindi and the worst thing is that they've actually added subtitles to it. I can understand the psychology behind the PAN India concept but at least 1 show in Kannada would be great right? There are only few big cinemas that can afford to have multiple language releases of the same film and I feel that has to change. According to me every theatre should keep 1 premiere show of any language based movie on the first and second day of the release especially if the movie is this huge and has the ability to mint money.
Honestly I feel the effect of watching any film in its original form is an experience you cannot fathom. Since 2018 I've been watching south Indian films in their respective language with subtitles irrespective of the fact whether I know the language or not. The dialogues presented by Allu Arjun in Pushpa, by Ram Charan or JR NTR in RRR, by Prabahs and Rana in Bahubali, etc. can never be replicated while dubbing. The emotions to some extent get butchered in the process and for people like me it makes a big difference.
Nevertheless, I'll watch KGF Chapter 2 again in Kannada once it has been officially released on Amazon Prime.
Until then do yourselves a favor and go to the nearest cinemas and watch how Rocky Bhai takes over the Kolar Gold Fields.
