GoT: Season 7 review & recap

So season 7 finally ends. I don’t know why but this was the season we all waited for. We got extra battles, extra action and extra dragon screen time. What more can we expect from the writers. So let’s not waste our precious time and let’s continue this small gist of what happened in season 7 right from the 1st episode. It will be like a recap of whatever happened in the 7th season only. So sit back and relax.

We get to see the stark family having a small reunion with bran and Arya meeting Sansa except for Jon who has currently headed to dragonstone to meet Daenerys and our very own lovable Tyrion Lannister. He also goes there to collect dragon glass which can be used to kill the white walkers. The introduction scene whether between Jon and tyrion or Jon and Daenerys was scripted so well that you end up laughing. Euron Greyjoy captures Yaara, Ellaria and Tyene and presents it to Cersei as her gift. Cersei kills Tyene and leaves Ellaria back in that cell. We get to see poor Theon who is helpless and scared like always.

At first Dany tells Jon to “Bend the knees” and consider her as his queen. To which Jon refuses at first. Samwell Tarly who is currently at the citadel, who tells Jon about the existence of dragon glass at dragonstone, also turns out to be a doctor who heals Jorah Morment from grayscale. Jaime with his Lannister army invades Olenna’s Highgarden. Jaime and Olenna have a very badass kind of conversation. Olenna is forced to consume poison by Jaime and in return Olenna spills out that she was the one who had killed Cersei’s son, Joffrey.

Jaime and his army are attacked by Daenerys who’s riding ‘Drogon’ along with a complete Dothraki tribe. This is the first time we see Daenerys riding Drogon for killing people and turning them directly to ash. Bronn uses the scorpion ballista i.e. the big spear launcher to kill Drogon. Drogon is injured by the spear yet he manages to strike Jaime who was planning on killing Daenerys. Jaime is pushed in the water by Bronn before Drogon blows the flames from his gigantic mouth. Jon shows Daenerys a series of paintings drawn on the cave wall at dragonstone where dragon glass is located. Those paintings depicted ancient people struggled with white walkers and this proved the existence of white walkers. Jon promises to return with a proof of white walkers existence and leaves beyond the wall with a pair of authentic suicide squad not the fake one that DC created.

Jon, Jorah, and Gendry, joined by the Hound, the Brotherhood, and a group of the Free Folk led by Tormund leave Eastwatch and pass the Wall, intending to capture a wight as evidence for Cersei that the Army of the Dead is real. After successfully capturing a white walker, the entire group is besieged by the White Walker army. Jon has Gendry return to Eastwatch and send a raven to Daenerys to request her help. Gendry our very own Olympic runner runs as fast as he can. Thoros freezes to death overnight because of a night bear attack. Daenerys arrives and saves the group from the wights, with the help of her dragons. Night king who is another Olympic javelin throwing expert, throws an ice spear towards Viserion, one of Daenerys’ dragon. Viserion is killed and Dany has no option but to leave with the rest of the group. Jon decides to stay that they can vacate properly. Jon somehow survives the attack and cold icy water that he falls into. He is later helped by Benjen stark, who in return sacrifices his life so that Jon can reach safely. But how did Benjen stark survive for so long that too with a horse is a mystery. Jon reaches the place where Daenerys and the others are staying. He pledges Dany to be the queen of north as she risked her life to save Jon. Viserion is brought back to life by the nightking by turning Viserion into one of the plus points for his army.

We reach the end of this season with Sansa and Arya planning against the shrewd and cunning lord Baelish aka littlefinger. He is charged guilty for treason against house stark and in return is killed by Arya. The main highlight of this episode is the meeting between Cersei and Daenerys. All the characters have a small chit chat and a white walker which was captured by Jon and his men is revealed to Cersei. Cersei accepts to help fight the war against white walkers but asks Jon to join her side during the war. Jon refuses without hesitation. Cersei gets adamant on her demand and leaves. Tyrion goes and speaks to her and she accepts the offer. Tyrion had told her something and later on feels bad that he betrayed his queen Daenerys.

Samwell reaches Winterfell and meets bran. Together they come to the conclusion that Jon is a trueborn named Aegon and valid heir to the Iron Throne with his parents Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark having married in secret. The episode ends with undead Viserion destroying the wall with his blue flames, allowing the army of dead to march past through it.

THIS IS HOW THE SEASON 7 OF Game of Thrones ends.

We got a lot of stuff in this season including the rumours of bran being the night king. We got a small cameo of Ed Sheeran and Nymeria. Honestly I expected Nymeria to come back somewhere in the middle of the season but the creators were all out of money creating dragons. We got to see the sensitive side of a Tyrion. Now I’m a bit sceptical on whose side Tyrion would end up. The reality of Jon snow being a Targaryen was highlighted earlier.

Expectations for the last season is bound to be high as we have waited for almost 7 seasons to see who actually sits on that damn throne. Not rooting for anyone as we already know anyone can die at any particular moment which is the beauty of George R.R. Martin
