Why I rewatched The Dark Knight Trilogy

Before I begin, let me come clear about the fact that I'm a big fan of the caped crusader. When I was young, Batman as a character never impressed me. The sudden liking happened after I watched The Dark Knight. Like I have mentioned earlier DC and Marvel both have been an integral part of  my life. Its not just the superheroes but their character arcs that make me curious as to whether the world really needs a superhero.

Batman or should I say Bruce Wayne is a superhuman. He does not possess any supernatural powers that he got from radioactive elements, super serums, etc. Whatever he has created as a legacy in the form of Batman is purely on the basis of  his skills. Bruce Wayne as an individual is far more superior to anyone without their powers. He has a lot of qualities that many superheroes lack even though they might be 10 times more powerful than Batman. I mean with the right amount of Kryptonite, batman was capable of bringing superman on his knees. We have seen all these things in theatrical, animated or maybe in some comic form but we often forget that Batman is just a human after all.

Coming back to The Dark Knight Trilogy:
You don't need reasons to watch Christopher Nolan's movies. He is a genius director with a unique sense of storytelling. A man of such calibre directs a trilogy related to the Bat of Gotham and finally the world gets introduced to Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman in a spectacular way.

This beautiful trilogy has some principles that we need to understand before watching it. Batman as a character always has a certain set of rules that he follows in order to attain justice. His rules may not go hand in hand with the law but its his ideology of justice that makes him a vigilante. Christian Bale might not come across as a "comic-book" accurate version of batman but he pulls of the character in a classic way which proves that Mr.Bale is a fine actor after all.

The Dark Knight Trilogy consists of 3 movies viz. Batman Begins(2005), The Dark Knight(2008) and The Dark Knight Rises(2012). All three movies have different villains with a common goal which is to ruin Gotham and destroy anyone who come in-between their goal.

Let me introduce you guys to the most prominent villains in the trilogy :

Villain #1 : Ra's Al Ghul
Ra's Al Ghul was portrayed by Liam Neeson. Now we all know that he trains Bruce Wayne but he uses the alias Henri Ducard. He teaches Bruce about everything from overcoming inner demons and failures to finding the will to act when needed. He also teaches Bruce about theatricality and deception which he uses the most when he becomes Batman. Although, Bruce and Henri split ways still Ra's Al Ghul finds his way back into Bruce's life with a great plan to destroy Gotham.

Villain #2 : The Joker
Joker was played by the legendary late actor Heath Ledger and his portrayal was absolutely amazing. One of the reasons why a lot of people started liking the trilogy was due to the insanity of joker that was very well implemented in this movie. Michael Caine says in the movie that some men just want to watch the world burn and this line is perfectly orchestrated by Joker. He just wants chaos and only that satisfies him. Moreover this was the movie from which we got the iconic line "Why so serious?".

Villain #3 : Bane
Bane, played by Tom Hardy struck a few chords with me personally. The fight sequence between Bane and Batman showed the world how powerful Bane is and what he is capable of. Bane just had one goal that Ra's Al Ghul had and he had to do it at any cost. Bane is a mercenary trained by Ra's Al Ghul so whatever Bruce knows, there is a slight chance that Bane might be better at it. For example theatricality and deception were the 2 USPs of Batman but he was still defeated because Bane was good at  it too. If your opponent knows your strengths and weaknesses then there is a very good chance that he can defeat you.

He also faces Scarecrow,Talia Al Ghul and Harvey Dent who becomes Two-face in the latter part of The Dark Knight.

Even after facing all of them, Bruce never gave up. Whenever Gotham needed its vigilante, he stood up for the city. This is something that motivates me and inspires me. Even though it is a fictional character, we end up learning a huge principle for life i.e Never Give Up!!

Like every human needs a companion, Bruce has Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine) who is his butler. Likewise batman also befriends Commissioner James Gordan who secretly supports and stands for Batman. Lucius Fox is someone who works in Wayne Industries and is also responsible for all the cool tech that Batman flashes every now and then. These people are basically the one's on whom Bruce or rather Batman can rely on.

Apart from these major points, the score by Hans Zimmer is one of the most beautiful and motivational pieces of background music that I feel highly obliged to have witnessed. Hans Zimmer is hands down one of the most significant composer and score producer in the history of Hollywood movies. He has worked with Nolan on many projects apart from this trilogy. However, his 1st collaboration with Nolan was for Batman Begins.

There are many reasons why I rewatched The Dark Knight Trilogy but in times like these, where everything around you is filled with uncertainty and negativity, such movies and such characters help in changing your mind. They show us how to fight our inner as well as outer demons but most importantly they teach us to never give up.

What were your thoughts when you watched The Dark Knight Trilogy? Write down in the comment section which villain did you like from the series.
