Greenland: Watch it now

So we're currently in the final stages of 2020; a year that most people will remember for ages to come. I just cannot fathom how swiftly these 8 months just flew away. Staying at home became a big thing and apart from studying and learning, I needed my share of entertainment. Naturally I found it on OTT platforms like Amazon Prime,Netflix,Hotstar, etc and while surfing around through such platforms,I found Greenland.

Greenland is a movie with a plot that you've seen and heard over a million times but still ends up keeping you gripped for its entire duration of around 2 hrs. Now to be honest I was not exactly sure whether to watch this movie or not. So with some amount of scepticism I decided to watch it and man-o-man it does keep you hooked.

So a comet named Clarke is en route to destroy our planet and the only place safe enough is a bunker in Greenland. The entire runtime of the movie is about how Gerard Butler along with his wife and son try to reach the bunker. Gerard Butler is well known for such films where something is surely falling whether its a dynasty/empire in 300 or the the Fallen Trilogy (Olympus has fallen,London has fallen,Angel has fallen). Don't quote me on this but I've heard that he is going to star in the 4th Fallen movie. With the aforementioned movies, Gerard Butler has shown us one thing that he is a brilliant actor. He has a set of great films in his bag of movies that contribute to his acting calibre.

Coming to the female lead, Morena Baccacrin plays the role of Allsion Garrity who, as you guessed is the wife of John Garrity played by Gerard Butler. Surprisingly, I've only seen her in Deadpool and Gotham(series) but here she has shown an emotional side to her character.

For such movies, visual effects are the backbone that have the ability to make or break a connection with the audience. This movie has heavy visual effects but seldom do you realise that. In simple words, the effects are crisp and to the point unlike some movies wherein the visual effects are so freaking  heavy that you lose sight of the actual plot.

The background score is quite adequate. Its not too loud and sometimes just fits in without any distractions from the actual tone of the movie.

All in all, its a movie that has a predictable ending but the acting and storyline might keep you asking for more.

I'm not sure how many of you have watched such genre of movies. For example: 2012 was a movie that had a severe impact on me back then because of the superstitions and myths surrounding it. Movies like San Andreas, The Day After Tomorrow, etc are just vague attempts to create something that doesn't really excite people anymore. There is a movie called Geostorm starring Gerard Butler which clearly failed to have an impact on the audience.

With Greenland, I must say, this genre has got some chances of survival and honestly Gerard Butler gets it right this time.

Comment whether you have watched this movie. Comment any other movies related to the same genre that kept you hooked for the entire duration of the film.
