AK vs AK : Experimental Cinema at its best

AK vs AK
. A movie about 2 of the most popular AK's of Bollywood ; Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap. One, has 40+ years of experience in acting and producing movies and the other one, has a career of making dark gritty movies that end up being cult classics. One, has a family full of actors and producers and the other one has a family of directors. One, is the most energetic and enigmatic soul present in Bollywood and the other one is the most workaholic and prolific filmmakers of Bollywood.

The movie is simple and yet it gets a crown for being revolutionary. And the reason for that is the meta, mockumentary-like structure of the film which makes it so unique. From the trailers itself we get an idea about the plot. There is a banter between both the AKs which reaches a point where they end up becoming rivals. Anurag decides to take revenge on Anil by making him act in a movie wherein his daughter Sonam is kidnapped for real. The entire movie proceeds in a non-traditional fashion where Anil Kapoor, the actor is searching for his daughter while Anurag Kashyap is actually getting all the sequences shot simultaneously. Something like this has never happened in Bollywood and that is why I'm writing about it.

Watching the remakes of the same old movies or just adapting a book is just not sufficient these days. The audience wants more. They want more reality than masala. Well, this movie provides a mix of both. After all it is a fictional film but it is shot in such a way that you really can't predict what is going to happen next and should I say the climax is actually quite unpredictable. Come on guys, I'm not going to reveal the suspense and even if I do, it is not going to change the fact that this movie is revolutionary cinema at it's best.

Its a small film and I won't give-in a lot of details as it would hinder your experience and make the movie more predictable. So I'll stop but before I do, I need to take this opportunity to write about the director.

Vikramaditya Motwane is one of the most experimental directors in Bollywood. His filmography is really quite unique and fresh. Udaan is one of the finest works of Motwane till date and is one of the top 10 Bollywood movies that I would recommend anyone. Although, Lootera was not able to live up to the magic of "The Last Leaf", it is still pretty watchable. Zinda, the last song from Lootera sung by Amit Trivedi is so soothing and it hit even harder in 2020. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero was like "The dark Knight" for India but unfortunately it didn't get the audience it deserved. Kudos to both, Motwane and Harshvardhan Kapoor for making this masterpiece which is actually quite relevant to the Indian society.

So all in all, with a 7.2 rating on IMDb, it's a movie you can watch along with your family and friends without taking too much stress and headache. It's movie's like these that make a difference so do yourself a favour and watch it on Netflix and find out which AK wins
