Army of the Dead : Zack's Zombie World
Army of the Dead is finally out on Netflix and it feels like Zack Snyder is back with a bang. With Justice League hitting the right chords, Army of the Dead does bring a sense of likeability towards Snyder's directing approach. This is what you get when a production company is not planning to hinder your creative mind.
Although we've seen a lot of Zombie apocalypse movies and some of them are pretty good but Zack brings out a unique flavor to it. The story is about a heist that is happening in Vegas amidst a Zombie breakout. This idea is pretty distinctive in consideration to its predecessor but that's not it. We've have faster and smarter Zombies (Alpha). Still not impressed? We also have a zombie Tiger named Valentine.
When the word Zombie comes to our mind, there are a certain set of movies that make the list like World War Z, Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead, Train to Busan, etc. So, there is not a lot of scope to create something new that we as audience have not witnessed. And to be honest I was having zero hopes from this movie although Zack is a great director. This might feel like a bummer but the story has nothing new to offer and it is predictable.
Now y'all know how good Snyder is with action sequences and that is the highlight of this movie. It's fancy from beginning and by the time you reach the end, you're back with the adrenaline rush. Action is his forte but most importantly it's the execution. The camera angles are pretty stable and not at all jittery. Slow-motion shots are included but not as much as in JL. Let me tell you that I love slo-mo shots especially if they are crafted beautifully. So, kudos to Snyder for creating some beautiful slo-mo shots.
Zack Snyder started his journey with Dawn of the Dead (remake of George A. Romero's 1978 horror film). This film is not at all dark but it contains a lot of gore. There are scenes which are very brutal and should not be seen by children. Nevertheless, I'm assuming they've already watched it.
After a certain point of time, you start to predict the fate of the characters and for those who have watched these kinds of films will surely get their predictions right. Like I stated earlier, the predictability of these kind of films is far too much so let's not focus on those aspects.
The new breed of Zombies reminded me of I Am Legend (2007) and the Zombie-tiger clearly brought back some Resident Evil memories. I'll go on record and state that this is in no way a rip-off of those characters but still the elements are same. We can call it a simple case of inspiration as the abovementioned movies are classics in this genre.
Well, the casting is great. We have Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi and many more who have contributed a lot in this film. Each and every character has been given equal importance and their screen presence defines how important they are to the storyline.
So, it's time to end my review and I hope that you guys have come to a conclusion whether to watch it or not.
P.S: Netflix made a joke on their twitter account stating that Army of the Dead is out and this is the Snyder Cut. If you got the joke then I'm assuming you're a woke AF.
