Spider-Man : Everyone is home

Well, let me make this clear before I start....the rumors were true and this might be a full blown spoiler review. So read it at your own risk.

The most awaited flick Spider-Man : No Way home released in India on 16th of December and honestly people lost their shit. Actually, I lost my shit too as we were going to experience the multiversal villains make a comeback. The most important of them all was the comeback of Tobey and Andrew (Not a secret anymore Marvel...huh?) which was purely nostalgic.

Now you guys have probably read my personal opinion about Tom's portrayal of the web slinger and how his predecessors were more likeable in terms of character development and relatability and if not then click here. Although, it is my personal opinion and I don't expect everyone to follow the same pattern but Tom's character has developed a lot in this movie. In fact I was shocked to see how this young lad was able to provide the same amount of emotional attributes that Tobey and Andrew gave at a certain point in their career.

After the release of Spider-Man : Into the Spider-Verse, I often thought how MCU could make this possible in a live action film. Nevertheless, they pulled it off brilliantly and the applauding/wooing audience all across the cinema halls is a valid proof of that.

Coming back to the plot, we all are well aware that Dr. Strange makes a blunder while casting the spell (Thanks to Tom) and that opens up a portal for all the villains starting from Dr. Otto Octavius to emerge. The subtlety with which they've introduced the previous villains is just amazing. Without giving out much details, I would like to tell you that we didn't get sinister six. Venom was the sixth villain but turns out he only got a few seconds of screen time that too as a post credit scene.

I really liked the character development of  Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) and the insanity that Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) shows throughout the movie is sufficient enough to give you goosebumps. The makeover of Max Dillon aka Electro (Jamie  Foxx) is comic accurate and feels a tad bit better than the TASM2 version. Honestly, I liked the blue Electro format but the one showed in this film is hands down better in terms of design and creativity. He also has the iconic electro star shaped mask that we have seen in the comics. We also have Dr. Curt Connors Aka Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Flint Marko/ Sandman (Thomas Haden).

There were a few continuity details that were addressed in this movie. For example: Tobey's Spiderman has the ability to shoot webs from his wrist but Andrew and Tom use web shooters which they've built. Also, the fact that Tom is the only one who has been a part of a group (Avengers) whereas Tobey and Andrew have been solo players since their initiation.

Watching a glimpse of Matt Murdock (Daredevil) gave me immense satisfaction as this character is close to my heart and now that he is a part of MCU, we are pretty close at getting a reboot for Daredevil (The series).

All-in-all this film has been a treat for all the 90s kids who have followed Tobey Maguire (2002-2007) and Andrew Garfield's (2012-2014) legacy as the wall crawling, web slinging menace or at least that's what J. Jonah Jameson says.

The background score was a big turnoff for me and I expected a little bit more hype in a few scenes but because of the grandiosity with which they've pulled this out, I'm ready to ignore the BGM.

Spoilers/ Rumors :

Before watching the film I had a fair idea about the following rumor's that turned out to be true -

1) Our very own Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) dies in this film

2) The sixth villain is Venom (Confirmed after the post credit scene of Venom : Let There Be Carnage).

3) Return of Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/ Daredevil) in MCU.

4) Tobey and Andrew's involvement in this film (set pics leaked and lizard getting punched in trailer )

5) Morbius is a part of Andrew's TASM universe (According to the trailer)

6) Andrew will save MJ and feel the guilt again that he could not save Gwen Stacy

In the 2nd post credit scene we've a small teaser for Dr. Strange : Into the Multiverse of Madness and Strange Supreme (shown in What If ?) will make a big disastrous mess that Wanda might help in clearing.

Honestly with all the series premiered on Disney + Hotstar, I'm a bit skeptical as to how MCU is playing its cards with the whole multiverse and time-space continuum. One of the reasons why I hated X-Men was the timeline as I was never able to follow the storyline completely. I hope the creators of MCU and Kevin Feige don't fall for that trap as MCU is the most magnificent universe (apart from LOTR and Harry Potter) with a fan following that spawns across the globe.

Well that's it for today.....gotta end it somewhere right ?

But before I end it, let me take this opportunity to say, "With great power, comes great responsibility".
